What does the word scrambler do?
It takes the words you enter and shuffles the letters of each one into a jumble, while keeping every original letter. It is the opposite of an unscrambler: instead of solving a jumble, it creates one. This is handy for making spelling puzzles, classroom activities and party games.
Can I scramble a whole list at once?
Yes. Paste as many words as you like, separated by spaces, commas or new lines, and each one is scrambled separately. You will see the original and its jumbled version side by side, ready to copy into a worksheet.
Will it ever give back the same word unchanged?
The scrambler reshuffles until the result differs from the original whenever possible. Very short words like "to" or "an" only have a couple of arrangements, so occasionally the jumble can match the original — longer words always come out mixed.
Can I choose uppercase or lowercase?
Yes, there is a toggle for capital letters, which many teachers prefer for younger pupils. The scrambler ignores numbers and punctuation and works purely with the letters in each word.
Is this useful for word games?
Definitely. Use it to set anagram challenges, build "unscramble the word" rounds for quizzes, or make practice puzzles. To solve jumbles rather than create them, use our Word Unscrambler or Anagram Solver instead.
Is the word scrambler free?
Yes, free with no sign-up or limit. It runs in your browser, so you can scramble words on a phone, tablet or computer whenever you need a quick puzzle.
