How do I use a blank tile?
Type a question mark (?) for each blank tile on your rack. The finder treats it as any letter, so RETIN?S finds words where the blank stands in for whatever letter makes the best word. Blanks score zero points, which is already reflected in the totals shown.
How are the Scrabble scores calculated?
Each word is scored using the standard English Scrabble tile values — A and E are 1 point, D and G are 2, B, C, M and P are 3, and so on up to Q and Z at 10. The total is the sum of the tiles in that word. Board bonuses like double-word and triple-letter squares are not included because they depend on where you place the tiles.
Does the finder only show words I can play right now?
It shows every valid word your tiles can build, longest and highest-scoring first. On a real board you also need a connecting letter, so use the "Contains", "Starts" and "Ends" filters to match the letter you are playing through.
Are all the words tournament-legal?
The finder uses a large standard English word list of more than 168,000 words. It is excellent for casual and family play. Official tournaments use specific word lists (such as the TWL or SOWPODS), so a small number of very obscure entries may differ from a given competition dictionary.
What is the highest-scoring word I can make?
That depends entirely on your tiles, but words that use Q, Z, J or X — especially across a bonus square — tend to score biggest. The finder always puts the highest-value words at the top of each length group so you can spot them instantly.
Is the Scrabble word finder free?
Yes. There is no charge, no account and no limit. It runs in your browser on any device, so you can use it mid-game on your phone.
